Alaska Fishing Forum

02/01/05: First off, I like the idea for this forum page. To be able to share personal testimonials is priceless information. My wife and I have been fishing in Alaska 3 times, from the salt to the inland rivers for trout and salmon. For the best all-around fishing, August seems to be the best time. We fished for silver, chum, sockeye and pink salmon plus rainbow trout in 3 separate river systems in southcentral Alaska. All the salmon were running strong during August and trout fishing was just getting hot. We landed 3 rainbows over 20 inches on flies. I like to fish dry flies, but my wife did just as well on salmon egg patterns and streamers. Hope to be back in Alaska again... sooner the better!

02/02/05: Can anyone here suggest a smaller, more personal halibut charter in the homer area? We are looking for one day excursions, but would prefer a smaller boat size w/ fewer fishermen on board. Thanks!

04/02/05: Subject: Halibut Charters: We had a great experience with Goin's Charters out of Deep Creek, just north of Homer. Small boat, great service and good fishign!

06/15/05: We spent one week in the Delta Junction area. There was not alot of produtive fishing water in the area, but we found a gem in clearwater creek just outside of town. Excellent Arctic Grayling fishing and a good run of silvers by mid-August. Beautiful clear, cold water.. all spring-fed.

07/02/05: We're looking to fish the Kenai River for Reds later this July, but I've heard it is difficult to find a peaceful area to fish unless you're staying at a private lodge with private water frontage. Any suggestions for an affordable lodge of this kind? We're a young couple traveling on a tight budget. Thanks!

07/12/05: Subject: Kenai River Have you considered hiring a drift boat guide and/or floating the river by raft?

05/02/06: Last summer we spent 2 weeks fishing Kings in southcentral Alaska. We fished off the Parks Highway, but found our best success on the Deshka river system We had to hire a boat to reach the Deshka mouth. The only setback to this river system is that all the fishing is done in the mouth of the river by boat along with about 100 other fishermen. Fishing off the Parks was a bit cluttered as well. Next time we'll definitely elect to fly out somewhere.
